Course Overview

Our Wire Rope Socketing Course provides comprehensive training in the safe and effective resin socketing of steel wire ropes. Designed for personnel involved in wire rope maintenance and socketing, the course combines technical instruction with practical, hands-on training to develop the skills required to carry out socketing using approved methods and procedures.

Delegates develop an understanding of different wire rope socketing applications, the factors that influence socket selection and the tools and equipment required for the job. The course covers the preparation of wire rope, accurate measurements, serving, resin mixing and pouring, together with the legal requirements and safe working practices associated with resin socketing.

Practical training is tailored to the type, construction and size of wire rope or strand being used and the experience of the delegates. Experienced wire rope engineers and technicians use demonstration, practical instruction and ongoing assessment to help delegates develop confidence in carrying out resin socketing correctly. Successful completion leads to certification.

What Is Wire Rope Socketing?

Wire rope socketing is a method of terminating steel wire rope by securing the rope within a suitable socket. Resin socketing uses a specially prepared resin, such as WireLock® or TALULOCK®, to form a secure connection between the wire rope and socket, creating a termination suitable for the intended lifting application.

Correct wire rope socketing requires more than simply pouring resin into a socket. The rope must be correctly prepared, measured and served, while the appropriate socket, tools, equipment and resin system, including WireLock® or TALULOCK®, must be selected for the application. The resin must also be mixed and poured using the correct procedure to achieve a reliable termination.

Our Wire Rope Socketing Training gives delegates the practical knowledge and skills to understand these processes and carry out resin socketing using WireLock®, TALULOCK® and approved methods and procedures. The course also covers the relevant legal requirements and safe working practices associated with wire rope socketing.
